MLKJ Day Celebration:
The Polar Peace March begins with a stirring celebration honoring the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and UCAN's work for non-violence and peace in Chicago.
March:The sun sets early in Chicago so the walk will be in the dark and it will be a MARCH that shines through the streets to show our stand against violence in Chicago.
At the conclusion of the march participants are welcomed back into the warmth of St. Pauls as we feed our souls with hot coffee, hot chocolate, warm soup, hearty bread, and cookies.
What to Wear: Expect POLAR CONDITIONS! Please be prepared to dress for extreme cold weather.
Layer Up The best way to dress for winter is to wear layers. Proper winter dressing means 3 layers (wicking, insulating and protection). Wicking the layer next to your skin, usually consisting of long underwear. Insulating the middle layer such as sweaters, sweatshirts, vests & pullovers that keep heat in and cold out by trapping air between the fibers. Protection the exterior layer such as a shell jacket and pants that guard against the elements of winter that can repel water from snow, sleet or rain and block the wind while also letting perspiration evaporate.
Accessorize: be sure to wear a hat, water-proof gloves/mittens, warm boots, and goggles if its windy.
